It is stunning that a woman who was chosen by the Republican presidential nominee didn't know basic information.
She also didn't know what countries were included in NAFTA.
This is not according to any Liberal blog or any Liberal commentator.

Perhaps one of the most astounding and previously unknown tidbits about Sarah Palin has to do with her already dubious grasp of geography. According to Fox News Chief Political Correspondent Carl Cameron, there was great concern within the McCain campaign that Palin lacked "a degree of knowledgeability necessary to be a running mate, a vice president, a heartbeat away from the presidency," in part because she didn't know which countries were in NAFTA, and she "didn't understand that Africa was a continent, rather than a series, a country just in itself."
Palin was apparently a nightmare for her campaign staff to deal with. She refused preparation help for her interview with Katie Couric and then blamed her staff, specifically Nicole Wallace, when the interview was panned as a disaster. After the Couric interview, Fox News reported, Palin turned nasty with her staff and began to accuse them of mishandling her. Palin would view press clippings of herself in the morning and throw "tantrums" over the negative coverage. There were times when she would be so nasty and angry that her staff was reduced to tears.
Some of my blog friends who adore Sarah Palin will defend this hideous example of her ignorance. Why?
Sigh.

The horrible thing about this is the Fox story is based on sources from inside the McCain campaign itself. The very same brainiacs who chose this creature now can't wait to separate themselves from the disaster they themselves created.
Amusing watching the Repub operatives push the women and children out of the way as they head for the lifeboats.

The more we lean about her, the angrier I am with the RNC for their disregard for their country's safety and prestige.
Sarah Palin is a very pretty woman. That is the only reason she got away with her appalling ignorance.
I've seen it all my life. A pretty, sexually appealing woman without any intellect always trumps someone with brains.

I can imagine how devastating the Palin wink must be to a male who spent his formative years in the Young Republicans, graduated to various canvassing positions. Worked on a number of state campaigns then hit the limelight landing a gig with McCain and the RNCC. All the while fantasizing about Laura Ingraham, Ann Coulter, Phyllis Schafly and perhaps Larry Craig. Not to mention the endless time spent with gun nuts, evangelicals, creationists, corporate shills and paint ballers.
None of this could have prepared them for the runner-up to Miss Alaska 1984.
They never had a chance.

Now, now...the same element of the conservative wing (fascists) that glorifies Sarah Palin were also the ones that went crazy for George Bush.
They find comfort in anti-intellectualism and they are so overwhelmed by the complexities of the world that rather than try to comprehend them they seek comfort in those that they perceive are like them and will exhibit a high degree of paranoia whenever any criticism is levelled at their side.
If you notice Fox News has made a very swift turn to supporting Obama over the last day or so...

Yes. I watched the Gibson and Couric interview. I believe it. And I believe she did not have ONE press conference and take questions nor go on any of the Sunday morning talk shows (as every candidate for vp has in the past) for a reason. The RNC did not want America to know how uninformed and clueless she is.

She clearly wasn't ready, and they clearly knew it. As I said at the time, it was a hail Mary pass, that was all about winning the election, and not at all about running the country.
And as for poor, sad Mike and his low budget version of America, he went off the deep end long ago, and even some of his peers recognize it. I feel a little sorry for him, really... I still go read his stuff, just to get a feel for where the real nuts are going--but I gave up trying to discuss anything with him ages ago. (Actually, I did try to post a comment about the wingnut "b" girl, but that was the first & only in prolly a year or more... & yes, Mikey deleted it.)
